About Peltz Gallery
Located in Bloomsbury, Peltz Gallery invites artists, academics and audiences to examine the world through art, hosting exhibitions that combine artistic practice and academic research. The gallery profiles the work of emerging and established artists from the UK and abroad, instigating public discussion on pressing subjects, while showcasing the creative, interdisciplinary and experimental research of Birkbeck's faculty and postgraduate students. Past exhibitions include Refugees, Newcomers, Citizens: Migration Stories from Picture Post,1938-56; Leonardo da Vinci and Perpetual Motion: Visualising Impossible Machines; Art at the Frontier of Film Theory: Laura Mulvey and Peter Wollen; and Paper Cuts: Art, Bureaucracy, and Silenced Histories in Colonial India.
Peltz Gallery was founded in 2013 with a generous donation from Elizabeth and Daniel Peltz. It lies at the heart of Birkbeck's Creative Practice Lab, which also includes Birkbeck's Institute for the Moving Image, the Vasari Centre, and the Centre for Contemporary Theatre.

Daniel and Elizabeth Peltz
- Daniel Peltz OBE completed the MA Renaissance Studies at Birkbeck in 2009.
- Daniel and Elizabeth Peltz were instrumental in funding the Peltz Gallery project and scholarships within the former School of Arts. Daniel is a Fellow of the College and is also a member of Birkbeck’s Estates Committee, where he advises the governors on property matters.
- Daniel and Elizabeth were keen to fund the restoration of Peltz Gallery. The restoration revealed period features and upgraded it in a style complementary with both the historic legacy of the School of Arts building and the modern design of Birkbeck’s RIBA award-winning Cinema.
