Safety and evacuation procedures

Birkbeck is committed to providing a safe environment for staff, students and visitors while on our premises.

This advice is for everyone who uses our buildings.

GENERAL EMERGENCY EVACUATION ARRANGEMENTS

  • If you discover a fire, raise the alarm by breaking the glass on the nearest call point.
  • Leave the building immediately by the nearest exit.
  • Follow instructions given by the Fire Wardens.
  • Proceed to the nearest Fire Assembly Point (see below).
  • Keep clear of the buildings.
  • Do not re-enter the building until instructed to do so by the Fire Co-ordinator.
  • Treat all alarms seriously (whether drills or otherwise).
  • Keep corridors and fire exits free from obstructions.
  • Keep fire doors closed.
