Entry Information for students from Trinidad and Tobago
-
ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
- The English language requirements for our courses are provided on individual course pages as minimum IELTS scores, however we accept many other tests and qualifications.
- Please visit our English language requirements page for more information.
-
Undergraduate entry requirements
- Applicants from Trinidad and Tobago who have taken the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) qualification can be considered for entry to the first year of an undergraduate degree programme. CAPE is graded on a I to VI scale (I being the highest) and Birkbeck would typically look for a minimum of II in each subject taken.
- Applicants with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or A-levels will also be considered for direct admission to our undergraduate degree programmes. IB requirements range from 28 to 33, depending on the course.
- Other applicants will normally require a Foundation course for entry onto undergraduate programmes at the university. These offer the opportunity for guaranteed progression onto Birkbeck’s Bachelor programmes.
-
Postgraduate entry requirements
- Birkbeck will consider applicants holding a good Bachelor (Honours) degree from recognised university (eg University of the West Indies) for Master’s study. Most departments require a minimum upper-second division (2:1) although some may consider students with a lower-second class division (2:2). Applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis for students holding other post-school qualifications and graduates of other universities; you may be admitted to a Master's programme with a lower-level degree if you have work experience relevant to the degree applied for.
- If you do not meet these criteria, you can apply for OnCampus' Master's Foundation programme, which is available for two- or three-term progression onto a wide range of Master’s degrees at Birkbeck.
-
Research degrees entry requirements
- The usual entrance requirement for a research degree is a Master’s degree from a recognised university; schools may accept students with high grades in the undergraduate degree.
- Applicants are strongly urged to contact potential supervisors within the department before submitting a research application.
