Entry Information for students from Qatar

  • ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

    • The English language requirements for our courses are provided on individual course pages as minimum IELTS scores, however we accept many other tests and qualifications.
    • Please visit our English language requirements page for more information.
  • Undergraduate Entry Requirements

    • Applicants from Qatar holding a شهادة ال ثان وي ة ال عامة, also known as Shahadat Al-Thanawaya Al-Aama (General Secondary Education Certificate) or a Qatar Senior School Certificate, will need to complete a foundation course before enrolling on a 3-year Bachelor's degree. Birkbeck offers two options:
      • Applicants who meet the English requirement can apply for 4-year integrated Bachelor’s Degree plus Foundation programmes, which offer a joint confirmation of acceptance for studies (CAS/Tier 4 visa) for all four years of study.
      • Applicants who do not meet the English requirement should apply for a Foundation year or international Year 1 degree at our partner provider OnCampus London, which is based on the Birkbeck campus and offers guaranteed progression onto Birkbeck’s Bachelor programmes.
      • Applicants with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or A-levels will be considered for direct admission to our undergraduate degree programmes. IB requirements range from 28 to 33, depending on the course.
  • Postgraduate Entry Requirements

    • To be considered for entry onto a Master’s degree at Birkbeck, you must have completed a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognised Qatari institution. Please note that all applications are considered on an individual basis and you may be admitted to a Master's programme with a lower-level degree if you have work experience relevant to the degree applied for.
    • If you do not meet these criteria, you can apply for OnCampus' Master's Foundation programme, which is available for 2- or 3-term progression onto a wide range of Master’s degrees at Birkbeck.
    • Qatari degree classification:
      • CGPA: 3.50-4.00; University of Qatar (pre-2016): 4.40-5.00 (A) (alternative name: Excellent; English translation or equivalent: 1st)
