Entry Information for students from Mauritius

  • ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

    • The English language requirements for our courses are provided on individual course pages as minimum IELTS scores, however we accept many other tests and qualifications.
    • Please visit our English language requirements page for more information.
  • Undergraduate Entry Requirements

    • Applicants who have completed the Cambridge Overseas Higher School Certificate (OHSC) can be considered for direct admission; we will consider the best three OHSC principal subjects (subsidiary subjects such as French and General Paper are not considered sufficient). Grades at OHSC will be considered entirely equivalent to British GCE A-levels.
    • Applicants with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or A-levels will be considered for direct admission to our undergraduate degree programmes. IB requirements range from 28 to 33, depending on the course.
    • Students who have taken the French Baccalaureate will be considered on an individual basis. You may also gain entry to Year 1 of our undergraduate degree programmes if you have successfully completed one or two years of an undergraduate degree with good grades (2.8-3.0 GPA, depending on the department).
    • Applicants who do not meet these criteria can be considered for a four-year course with foundation programme in their field of interest. Upon successful completion of the Foundation Year, students will automatically progress on to our three-year degree.
    • Alternatively, applicants can opt for a Foundation coursefor entry onto undergraduate programmes at the university.
  • Postgraduate Entry Requirements

    • Applicants from Mauritius would need to have completed a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
    • For programmes requiring a UK upper-second-class degree (2:1), you will need an overall score of at least 60% or equivalent. For programmes requiring a UK lower-second-class degree (2:2), you will need a GPA of at least 50% or equivalent.
    • Please note that all applications are considered on an individual basis and you may be admitted to a master's programme with a lower-level degree if you have work experience relevant to the degree applied for.
    • If you do not meet these criteria, you can apply for OnCampus London's Master's Foundation programme which is available for two- or three-term progression onto a wide range of master’s degrees at Birkbeck. Foundation programmes from other providers will also be considered.
