Entry Information for students from Jordan

  • ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

    • The English language requirements for our courses are provided on individual course pages as minimum IELTS scores, however we accept many other tests and qualifications.

  • Undergraduate Entry Requirements

    • Applicants from Jordan who have taken the Tawjihi (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) will normally require a Foundation course for entry onto undergraduate programmes at Birkbeck. These offer the opportunity for guaranteed progression onto Birkbeck’s Bachelor programmes.
    • Applicants with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or A-levels will be considered for direct admission to our undergraduate degree programmes. IB requirements range from 28 to 33, depending on the course.
    • Students who have studied for one or two years at a recognised higher education institution in Iraq may be considered for Year 1 entry.
  • Postgraduate Entry Requirements

    • To be considered for entry onto a Master’s degree at Birkbeck, a student from Jordan must have completed a Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university. Please note that all applications are considered on an individual basis and students may be admitted to Master's programmes with a lower-level degree if they have work experience relevant to the degree applied for.
    • If you do not meet these criteria, you can apply for OnCampus' Master's Foundation programme, which is available for 2- or 3-term progression onto a wide range of Master’s degrees at Birkbeck.
    • Jordanian degree classification:
      • Letter: A; CGPA: 3.25-4.00 (alternative name: Excellent; English translation or equivalent: 1st)
      • Letter: B+/B; CGPA: 2.50-3.24 (alternative name: Very good; English translation or equivalent: 2:1)
      • Letter: B/C+; CGPA: 2.10-2.49 (alternative name: Good; English translation or equivalent: 2:2)
      • CGPA: 2.00-2.09 (English translation or equivalent: Third class).
  • Research degrees Entry Requirements

    • The usual entrance requirement for a research degree is a Master’s degree.
    • Applicants are strongly urged to contact potential supervisors within the department before submitting a research application.
