Entry Information for students from Italy

  • ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

    • The English language requirements for our courses are provided on individual course pages as minimum IELTS scores, however we accept many other tests and qualifications.
    • Please visit our English language requirements page for more information. 
  • Undergraduate Entry Requirements

    • Applicants from Italy who have completed the Diploma di Esame di Stato with a minimum final grade of 75/100 (equivalent to A-level grades BBC) can be considered for direct entry to an undergraduate course at Birkbeck.
    • Applicants with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or A-levels will be considered for direct admission to our undergraduate degree programmes. IB requirements range from 28 to 30, depending on the course.
    • Applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements can consider a Foundation course, which allows students the chance to progress onto Birkbeck’s Bachelor programmes.
      • A-level AAA = 144 UCAS tariff points = comparable offer 95 (corresponding subject grade: A = 85)
      • A-level AAB = 136 UCAS tariff points = comparable offer 90
      • A-level ABB = 128 UCAS tariff points = comparable offer 85
      • A-level BBB = 120 UCAS tariff points = comparable offer 80 (corresponding subject grade: B = 70)
      • A-level BBC = 112 UCAS tariff points = comparable offer 75
      • A-level BCC = 104 UCAS tariff points = comparable offer 70
      • A-level CCC = 96 UCAS tariff points = comparable offer 65 (corresponding subject grade: C = 60).
  • Postgraduate Entry Requirements

    • Applicants from Italy will usually need:
    • Diploma di Laurea (pre- and post-1999) from a recognised institution
      • For programmes requiring a UK 2:1: a minimum final grade of 100/110
      • For programmes requiring a UK 2:2: a minimum final grade of 90/110
    • If you do not meet these criteria, you can apply for OnCampus' Master's Foundation programme, which is available for two- or three-term progression onto a wide range of Master’s degrees at Birkbeck.
    • Italian degree classification:
      • 108-110 con lode (English translation or equivalent: 1st)
      • 94-107 (English translation or equivalent: 2:1)
      • 84-93 (English translation or equivalent: 2:2)
      • 66-83 (English translation or equivalent: Third class)
  • Research degrees Entry Requirements

    • The usual entrance requirement for a research degree is:
    • Laurea Specialistica from a recognised institution with a final grade of at least 100/110 or equivalent
    • OR Diploma di Specializzazione di primo livello (DS1) from a recognised institution with a final grade of at least 100/110 or equivalent
    • OR Master Universitario di primo livello from a recognised institution with a final grade of at least 100/110 or equivalent
    • Applicants are strongly urged to contact potential supervisors within the department before submitting a research application.

 

Global Future Scholarship

Discover our Global Future Master’s scholarships for postgraduate students. The scholarship will be applied as a discount to the tuition fee for the first year of your full-time master's course, to bring it in line with the Home tuition fee amount, if you are eligible. You don’t need to apply for the scholarship because it will be automatically applied by our admissions team at the time of enrolment.
