Entry Information for students from Ethiopia

  • ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

    • The English language requirements for our courses are provided on individual course pages as minimum IELTS scores, however we accept many other tests and qualifications.

  • Undergraduate entry requirements

    • Applicants from Ethiopia will normally require a Foundation course for entry onto undergraduate programmes at the university. These offer the opportunity for guaranteed progression onto Birkbeck’s Bachelor programmes.
    • Applicants who have completed one or two years of university in Ethiopia can be considered for direct entry onto an undergraduate degree.
    • Applicants with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or A-levels will be considered for direct admission to our undergraduate degree programmes. IB requirements range from 28 to 33, depending on the course
  • Postgraduate entry requirements

    • To be considered for entry onto a Master’s degree at Birkbeck, a student from Ethiopia must have completed a Master’s degree with a GPA of at least 3.0 out of 4.0/Grade B from a recognised Ethiopian institution. Students applying for postgraduate courses requiring a UK 2:1 degree will need a Master’s degree with at least 3.5 out of 4.0 from a recognised university.
    • If you do not meet these criteria, you can apply for OnCampus' Master's Foundation programme, which is available for two- or three-term progression onto a wide range of Master’s degrees at Birkbeck.
  • Research degrees entry requirements

    • For entry onto our research degree courses, students should normally have a Master’s degree from a UK university or a recognised university in Ethiopia.
    • Applicants are strongly urged to contact potential supervisors within the department before submitting a research application.
