Entry Information for students from Brunei

  • ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

    • The English language requirements for our courses are provided on individual course pages as minimum IELTS scores, however we accept many other tests and qualifications.
    • Please visit our English language requirements page for more information.
  • Undergraduate entry requirements

    • Applicants with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or A-levels will be considered for direct admission to our undergraduate degree programmes. IB requirements range from 28 to 33, depending on the course. The Brunei-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Advanced Levels (GCE A-levels) is comparable in terms of grading and equivalence to UK A-levels.
    • Many Higher National Diplomas are recognised for Year 2 direct entry onto some degree programmes, depending on the courses taken and the grades obtained.
  • Postgraduate entry requirements

    • Applicants from Brunei need to have completed a Bachelor’s degree (Honours) from a recognised institution. A score of 60% or B or a 3.1 GPA from a well-ranked public institution is considered comparable to a UK 2:1, while a score of 50% or C or a 2.7 GPA is comparable to a UK 2:2. Bachelor's degrees (ordinary) are not normally sufficient for entry.
    • Relevant work experience may also be considered for students whose GPAs are slightly below the preferred requirements.
    • If you do not meet these criteria, you can apply for OnCampus' Master's Foundation programme, which is available for two- or three-term progression onto a wide range of Master’s degrees at Birkbeck.
  • Research degrees entry requirements

    • For entry onto our research degree courses, students should normally have a Master’s degree from a recognised university. Some departments may accept students with the equivalent of an upper-second-class Bachelor’s degree.
    • Applicants are strongly urged to contact potential supervisors within the department before submitting a research application.
